CHARITY: 1% For the Planet
Website: https://www.onepercentfortheplanet.org/
At Pam A Sawyer DC Artwork, we believe that art has the power to not only transform spaces but also to create positive change in our world. That's why we're proud to be part of the 1% for the Planet movement, a global network of businesses and environmental organizations working together for a healthier planet.
Founded by Yvon Chouinard of Patagonia and Craig Mathews of Blue Ribbon Flies, 1% for the Planet ensures that businesses like ours contribute at least 1% of annual sales directly to environmental nonprofits. These carefully vetted organizations work tirelessly in areas such as climate action, food sustainability, land preservation, water conservation, and wildlife protection.
When you bring home one of our vibrant nature-inspired pieces, you're not just investing in art – you're investing in Earth's future. Each purchase helps support vital environmental initiatives that protect the very landscapes and natural wonders that inspire our artwork.
Together, we're creating beauty both on canvas and in our world. 🎨🌿
The Story Behind the Painting
My girls helped me pick the elements for this piece! 2024 Christmas, we were struggling to have enough money for gifts. Mind you, we'd find a way for our own kids; they're happy no matter how much something costs. As long as it's fun, they don't care. But this was the first year I was afraid I wouldn't be able to do anything for my nieces and nephews. Mind you, for many that doesn't seem like a big deal. For our family, it is. Most of our family struggles with finances, so I'm one of the few, if not only, aunt who makes sure all the kids get something from someone other than their parent(s) and Santa. I felt like a huge failure. Luckily, my kids and I put our art skills to the test and provided handmade gifts (and thankfully at the incredibly last minute) with a few extra dollars for each to spend as they wished to "the cousins." The ones we saw in person, we managed to scrape something together, so there was a gift in hand. The prints we are selling from Operation Christmas 2024 are the ones for the adults who were at our Christmas celebration this year.
Jellyfish Dream was made as a gift to my brother and his wife, who is obsessed with aquatic life. Merging her love of aquatics and my girl's love of glitter tattoos, Jellyfish Dream was born.

ALVIN'S ART CRITIQUE #2: "Jellyfish Dream"
★★★★★ (5 out of 5 trash cans)
[Dons underwater critic gear - snorkel over glasses]
"My sophisticated art lovers, today we dive deep into what I like to call 'The One That Got Away From The Aquarium Gift Shop.' [adjusts snorkel importantly]
These ethereal creatures, floating with all the grace of plastic bags in the wind - and trust me, I know my plastic bags - capture the essence of underwater ballet. Though I must note, they're significantly less grabby than the bags I'm used to.
The color palette! chef's kiss These blues and pinks remind me of that time I accidentally fell into a pool of watercolors. A purely professional research incident, I assure you.
The composition suggests movement that's almost hypnotic... [starts swaying] Oh! Pardon me, I got caught up in the artistic current.
Final Verdict: A piece that makes me consider taking swimming lessons, though I prefer my water encounters to be limited to puddle splashing.
[whispers to camera] I tried to interview these jellyfish for my critique, but they gave me the silent treatment. Very professional of them, really."
